How Did I Get Started On This Path?It started with PEO's Over the years I found and used three different Professional Employee Outsourcing (PEO) companies. I found the first PEO company years ago searching for a solution to my frustration trying to recruit the high caliber talent I needed and the insane cost of small business health insurance. We were at a huge disadvantage as a small company (i.e., less than a zilllion employees) — the benefit package the executives and workers I needed demanded packages that matched the ones of the Fortune 500. Benefits like that were prohibitively expensive — and what little insurance we did have was priced sky high. Then there was the hassle of doing a payroll and filing the multitude of taxes and reports and forms and. . . I also learned that dealing with local governmental agencies that regularly called wanting to know why we had not filed xyz reports or paid our employment taxes (we had, they just were so incompetent they kept losing the information) was no fun and a total waste of my time. Besides, every time I got one of their "Dear Felon" letters, I was really nervous until I reached my CPA or attorney (read $150) an hour to get the problem handled. Then there was the problem employee I had with a drinking problem. Trip to attorney, phone calls ($150 an hour for hours) and finally a separation of the individual... Dealing with HR issues today is a minefield that requires experts to guide you through. Thankfully, I found the best answer Professional Employee Outsourcing or "PEO" also known as Employee Leasing. I use a PEO today for my business, you should too. Merchant Credit Card Processing Thanks to a long-time friend who was a pioneer in Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and an international consultant on EFT issues, I was knew a good bit about the inside workings of the credit card processing industry. I realized that there were many owners (like myself) who were paying far too much for their credit card processing simply because they were not card processing experts and did not think they could save as much as they can with the right card processor. I work with several clients who, like I did in one of my previous companies, take a lot of payments via cards. Talking with them, I realized they were paying way too much and so I went looking for a more cost effective answer. That is how I found a solution that saves about 19 out of 20 firms money, sometimes a little, often hundreds of dollars a month on their card processing. Now you can get great service, fantastic rates and real customer service from one of the nation's top processors. You can't lose and can only win with this service. I personally use it, you should too. Developing Customer Trust and Relationships In my business career, staying in touch and saying "thank you" to those who go out of their way to help, who are great customers and for those new prospects who we want to turn into customers was something we all knew should be done. But as an owner with sales people, good ones mind you, I was always frustrated because we all knew sending a note or thank you card to a good customer or new prospect was the thing to do. Somehow, it just did not always happen. The problem was I kept buying stacks of great personalized thank you cards and somehow they never did get used much. Too hard to find a stamp, takes too long to address the letter, I have too many people to send things to.... the reasons and excuses were endless. Then there was the "Holiday Season" where cards were sent to all the customers, etc. It was a nightmare of confusion and chaos as people tried to find their list of rubber-banded cards, find addresses in Outlook, then figure out how to print labels. And it was expensive. I found a great solution that was as easy to use as sending email but sent out a superb high quality real printed note, greeting card, or even a brochure in a real envelope that is individually customized with your message. Sent in a real envelope, it includes your signature and a real stamp. Now, when the Holiday Season comes around, you can send out the cards with one keystroke! Forget buying cards ever again.
